Today’s Smart TV’s are more important than ever helping to bridge the connection between yourself and all of the digital content that is now available through services such as Netflix, YouTube TV, Hulu, and the other many choices that we now have. Listed below is a basic outline of how to connect your Smart TV with your router. Amplex Internet recommends whenever possible, to run a physical Ethernet cable to your Smart TV to ensure a good connection. Specific equipment instructions may vary based on the manufacturer. For more detailed instructions, please refer to your WiFi-capable Smart TV’s user manual.
Before You Connect
Find Your WiFi Name and Password
If you don’t know your WiFi network name and password, it is the information that you entered when you first set up your router.
If you happen to have our Managed Router Service, feel free to consult the brochure your installer left for you, or call into our office for the password.
Check Your Drivers and Software
Before attempting to connect to WiFi, check to make sure you have the latest software installed on your WiFi-capable device to ensure it works properly.
Connect Your Smart TV
To connect your WiFi-capable Smart TV to your wireless network, follow the instructions below.
Visit your Smart TV’s network settings menu.
Select the option for WiFi or Wireless, and wait for the device to scan available networks (sometimes referred to as access points).
Select your WiFi network name (also called SSID) from the list of available networks.
If your home WiFi network doesn’t appear in the list of available networks, you may need to select an option to search or manually enter the name.
When prompted, enter your WiFi password (also called a Network Key) using the remote control or on-screen keyboard.
Additional Tips for Connecting Your Smart TV
For most music and video streaming activities using your Smart TV, a wireless connection should work well. If you cannot connect your Smart TV wirelessly, or if you want to stream high-bandwidth content such as 4K, then connecting to your router with an Ethernet cable is a better solution.
You also may need help opening or unblocking certain ports on your router to connect your Smart TV to your home network.
